The POTD: its origin

It's time for the Picture Of The Day!

But first, I wanted to give a brief explanation of it's origin. When my mom was leaving in December after Savannah was born, she said
" I want you to send me a picture of her every day. "
Then later on the phone she said
"I'm kidding, but not really."

As I'm nothing if not a dutiful daughter (HA!), I have done my best to keep the grandparents updated on Savannah's appearance. I'm close to every day, but sometimes it's the picture of the last three days or so. Sometimes the picture is beautiful and perfect, sometimes it's not, but I am so glad that I have this record of my baby. I love flipping through the files of her.

Also, I will be referring to it as the POTD from here on out. I got tired very quickly of typing out Picture of the Day and shortened it. So without further ado.....I present to you June 30, 2006:

The downside of cute chubby cheeks

The two of us were at the mall today running some errands and getting some 'exercise' (it's the only kind I'm getting lately). We stopped into Lush cosmetics (which I highly recommend - www.Lush.com) and were descended upon by the friendly girls that work there.
"Oh what a cute baby!" "Look at her cheeks!" "Hi Baby!" "Hi!"
"HIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!"

This ramped up to a fever pitch until poor Savannah, who was in general smiling and laughing at their antics, freaked out and started crying - with 'the lip' and everything. For those of you who are unfamiliar with 'the lip', here is a picture for reference (from several months ago). Conor always says that this is the stuff they need to warn you about in prenatal classes because it's heartbreaking.

I think they were a little too much for her. I also think that stranger anxiety is starting to kick in a little. Sometimes it's hard being the cutest six month old in the world. Your adoring public just wants a piece of you all the time.

Crib Gymnastics

I wish the sound of my camera wouldn't wake up Savannah as I would love to show you a picture of her new sleeping position. It involves her mashing her face directly into the crib with her arms straight back and her butt up in the air. This is after five minutes of scooting backwards in the crib until she is in the far back corner with her legs hanging out of the guardrail. I can't imagine that it's comfortable, but I can't argue with two hour naps.

Spoon!

At dinner tonight, I would swear that Savannah said 'spoon'. I shall recreate the scene:

Shannon: "OK Savannah, you may hold your spoon"

Savannah: "spoon" (said through a mouthful of 'Winter Squash')

Silence while Conor and I look at each other in surprise then in unison... "nah, couldn't have been"

Then the sound of the spoon hitting the kitchen floor as it was hurled like so many toys throughout the day.

Fin.

Father's Day Brunch

I realize I'm going backwards in time here, but I figured I get all the major updates in while they're still fresh in my memory. For Father's Day this year ( Conor's first) we had a Father's Day brunch for four of our friends. In the past year and a half, all four couples have had babies, so we had FOUR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 18 months at our house for brunch. Allison, 18 months, Savannah, six months, Lily, 4 1/2 months and J, 3 1/2 months. It was the best kind of madness and tons of fun. If you had told any of us our group dynamic would have changed this dramatically in a year, we would have never believed you..... I will say it's been great having all of our friends here with kids approximately the same age as Savannah.

We served the Dads and let them have some peace in the dining room and the rest of us just hung out and played with all the babies. Savannah loves the big kids. She thinks Allison is super cool. Of course, because my brain is mush, I forgot to take a picture of all four kids together, but here are some individuals of the Dads and babies.

Sweet Allison tolerating Savannah's right hand (aka - the Club). She's looking over at her mom like "how much longer do I have to let her do this?"

Grandma Jean's Visit & Teeth

Grandma Jean was in town last week and it was fantastic for everyone involved. Conor and I got to go out to dinner by ourselves with a trusted babysitter at home and Grandma taught Savannah all kinds of things such as:

  1. Sitting on the couch while playing with toys
  2. Drinking from a glass (that's right - no sissy sippy cup for her, she was drinking straight from a glass)
  3. The delights of Sesame Street. She freaked out (in a good way) when Elmo came on the screen. I have never seen her so focused on anything.
  4. The awesomeness of blowing bubbles.
They also took walks, which is quite a feat considering the hills we have in our neighborhood, and we went all over town seeing things. I was so glad she was able to come because she hasn't seen Savannah since March and it's amazing how she's (Savannah, not my Mom) changed in just three months!

She was also here to witness Savannah's first tooth! It came in on the 19th. I just noticed today that she has TWO teeth (both on the bottom). She's been very reluctant to allow me to open her mouth, so I think her gums are still a bit sore. I've been thinking what a raw deal teething is as she's just going to lose these teeth in a few years. She's worked so hard to get them in! Only about 18 more to go!!!!

Savannah's Blog - Welcome

As Savannah is growing so quickly, I've decided to start a blog in order to record what's happening in her busy six month old life (and our's). Enjoy!
