Braided Moose Antlers
Gaga Jean was in town this weekend as I worked and worked. She asked Savannah if she wanted braided pigtails. Savannah quickly corrected her by saying "Actually, they are called Moose Antlers."
Yeah, we have to be different, so Savannah doesn't get pigtails, she gets Mosse Antlers. I don't know why she calls them that. She just thinks it's funny and so do I. Enjoy the cuteness.

3 Year Old stats
Some quick stats from our well-child check this morning
(ahhh the pleasure of being able to sit in the well waiting room instead of the sick one):
Height 38 inches (85%)
Weight: 33 pounds (75%)
Hearing and vision tests passed. She really liked getting to wear the headphones and raise her hand when she heard the beep.
Developmental questions answered appropriately. It was fun this time as they asked her the questions instead of me. She got to speak for herself. The Doctor asked her her favorite color, her favorite toy, her favorite food and her favorite thing to do outside. I should have asked what those questions were meant to test but I didn't. They also asked her to stand on one foot, climb stairs, draw a circle and draw a plus sign.
The shots were another story. This is the first time that she's really known what's going on. They gave her the first shot and she said "Hey! Ouch! Stop!" and then started to cry. Oh that made me sad. She's asked me all day why she had to have those "medicine pinches".
However, the nurse felt bad and gave her FIVE Thomas stickers. Wow.

Conversations
As we are passing a display of mulling spices at Whole Foods
"OOH! What's that?"
"Those are mulling spices. You use them to make apple cider."
"I think I will like apple-citis."
"No, Savannah, it's a delicious seasonal drink, not a medical condition."
"What's a medical condition? Do I have one?"

Ick

So croup turned into wheezing, which turned into labored breathing, which turned into a lethargic and not completely responsive kiddo, which turned into a visit to the urgent care center on Saturday morning minutes before I was due to shoot a 12 hour wedding.
I really thought they were going to admit her to the hospital . You know it's not good when the nurse leaves the door open and calls down the hall for the doctor and she IMMEDIATELY comes into the room.
A few rounds of steroids via a 'breathing machine' (little portable misting thingy) and we were cleared to go home. I was freaking out about having to leave for the day. Not a lot of sick days for wedding photographers. But Savannah was fine and the wedding was great. I'm sure Conor got a little tired of my frantic texts and calls checking in, but it helped me through the day.
They sent us home with our very own breathing machine and enough supplies for a house full of asthmatics. We went back this morning to have her checked out and she is mostly all better.
We believe the culprit to be our good intentions - we cleaned out the mudroom (which has pretty much been our final dumping ground for random stuff since we moved in 18 months ago) and did some drywalling and in the process kicked up a lot of dust. Our mild temperatures meant we weren't running the air or heat and the particulates just hung in the air and migrated into our three-year old's little lungs.
So my suspicions that cleaning brings nothing but misery are now confirmed.

POTD: January 2, 2009
This picture was this morning - all smiles on the swing.
Took a nap and woke up with the croup - poor little lady. You can tell that being sick doesn't keep her down though.
