Snow Day

Whee! Snow in Austin! Snow in Austin!

Actually, I am ready for Spring and was a bit of a grump about the snow at first. However, after Savannah got home from school, we had lots of fun playing and my heart grew three sizes that day.

I know that this isn't really a lot of snow, but for Austin, this was a Big. Deal.

Just so we don't end the week on a downer...

Me: You are sneezing a lot Savannah - are you OK?

S: Yes, it's just all the pollen from those Caesar trees.

Note for the Non-Austinites, we tend to have bad CEDAR pollen here.

So, there was that thing.

We live approximately 3 miles from where the plane hit the Echelon building yesterday and aside from a little more traffic getting to Target, we are completely fine.

I drove by the building today as I was out running errands and it made me feel

A) really creeped out. Noticing that, while it was a small plane, it looked awfully large melted into the side of the building. And it IS melted into the building - like a trash compactor smushed it in there. I also noticed things that you couldn't see on the television. The trees around the building are all blackened and strewn with venetian blinds and pink insulation. There is debris everywhere. It truly is a miracle that most everyone got out alive and with minimal injuries.

And B) I felt so mad that extreme ferver for a belief, whether that belief is political or religious or whatever can drive some people to feel entitled enough to do something like this. How could you ever see this as a solution to a problem? It's just so wrong. My heart is breaking for that poor IRS worker's family.

Weird day.

This morning at breakfast.

S: Mama, can I tell you something?

Me: Sure buddy.

S: I think you are aMAZing.

POTD: Signs of Spring?

The weather here is currently nutso. This El Nino year has brought us a very unplesant winter with lots of rain and chilly temperatures.

Our poor bulbs are so confused. I have no idea why some of them are blooming now, but as we are having a freeze here tonight, I figured we'd just cut some and bring them inside to enjoy.

POTD: Hypothetically

Let's say someone you know was about to take a shower and their, let's say, four year old asked "Can I play with makeup?" This purely hypothetical person mumbled "mmm..hmmm" because she was futzing around with something. Then she takes her shower and possibly hears giggling in the other room. This person might find something like this waiting for her:

But I certainly don't know anyone who would let that happen.

S: "yes, I'm going to use it to buy a car with FLAMES on it!"
