The Park

We went to the big playgroud at Zilker Park today and above is what Savannah wanted to do most - play in the dirt. Also, her hair is getting out of control. We have a haircut appointment on Friday, but after the freak outs at the doctor, I'm a little nervous about it.

Ok, so I'm surfing around the Dallas Morning News during naptime and I stumble across this article.

I agree with some of it and I'm sure my mom and Bridget would too as they work in the schools, but this line cracked me up.

But Dr. Campbell did note that narcissism can have benefits, suggesting it could
be useful in meeting new people "or auditioning on American Idol."

What Happens When I Say "Come to Mommy"

Well, this happens sometimes - other times I get a look like "I don't speak English - go away" You can also click on this picture to get a larger version.

Savannah has figured out the hand gestures to "The Itsy Bitsy Spider".

I present to you "Out came the sun...."

Oh and I forgot to mention....

Our house in Seattle closed on Friday!

Yippeeeeeeeee!!!!!

Why I should take my camera EVERYWHERE

1. Poor Conor has to work AGAIN this Saturday (but the end of the crazy work hours is in sight!) so Savannah and I headed over to the Children's Museum in downtown. I got a membership last time I was there, so we are going to get our money's worth. Savannah loves it there - it's a great place for toddlers. Lots of things at her level and tons of stuff to touch.

She spotted the big model train that was circulating around the room and put out her hand for me to walk her over to it. Well apparently, I was not fast enough as she just took off across the room. Walking the whole time! She is a silly, complicated, stubborn little girl. I'm glad she's starting to get some confidence in her walking though.

2. As we were leaving the museum, there were about 10 people on Segways. I learned that Austin has a Segway tour. I know this is kind of evil, but I couldn't stop laughing at the people trying to ride a Segway and take pictures of things at the same time. It really seemed like a recipe for disaster.

3. On the way home, there was a guy on a bike (the kind of bike that you sit back on like an exercise bike. They had them all over the place in Seattle - hopefully you know what I'm talking about) and he had about 50 balloons attached to his bike with a big sign that said "Americans for Peace" and was just cruising along on one of the main streets, cars whipping by him.

Savannah apparently joined an early 80's synth band last night as this is how she looked first thing this morning.

What in the?

Wooooo! Post 200!

Last night Conor was working late so Savannah was sitting on the kitchen floor while I was finishing up the dishes. I had the dishwasher open and as usual she had taken some notice of it (She likes to get the spoons and knives out of the utensil holder).

I swear I turned around for FIVE seconds to dry off her high chair tray and when I looked back she had climbed ONTO the dishwasher and was standing holding onto the top rack.

The climbing has come out of nowhere. She wants to step up and climb on everything. It makes me far less sympathetic about her "Oh no, I couldn't possibly walk without holding onto your hand" shtick.

More random blabble from me

I'm trying to make up for my lack of posting...........

I love this website: http://runningfromcamera.blogspot.com/

It's so simple and so stupid and yet really, really brilliant.

If I was a gallery curator, I'd give this guy a show. It's better than a lot of the stuff I curated when I worked in the school gallery.

Hippy FYI

We went for a follow up on Savannah's hips today and for the most part, the news was good. Things are looking generally fine. There are a few things we still need to watch in the next few months with the hopes that they will sort themselves out, but we are one step closer to out of the woods (and out of the realm of hip surgery). We don't have to go back to the ortho for six months.

It's amazing the terminology you learn when your kid has some medical problem. They put Savannah's X-Ray up on the screen and I thought "Oh great - her left hip is ossifying." I am a nerd. There is way too much information on the Internet.

Oh and can anyone tell me when kids stop LOSING their MINDS at the doctor's office? Savannah used to be such a good patient, but the last few visits the second she touches that crinkly paper she starts kicking and scratching and screaming to get away - even before they do anything to her.

Something that was kind of funny though, was after the exam, she stood on the ground with her head buried into my legs sniffling while the doctor was talking to me. HOWEVER, she would occasionally turn around and check out the cute young intern that the surgeon had with him and smile like "Oh I'm not mad at YOU". Then she'd go back to sniffling.

POTD: Dallas Trip

Fun weekend in Dallas for us. Here are some pics.
Savannah with her new lawnmower! It was a big hit.

Her face is hilarious in this picture.
I'm not sure what all the drama was about.

And finally, here is the Queen of the Day. Does it get any better than being pulled around in a wagon, propped up by a pillow, wearing your new shades and eating a potato chip?

I don't think so....

The weather was lovely yesterday and Conor got home a bit early, so we took a walk around the intramural fields. The light in Texas cannot be beat at about 4:30. It's simply amazing and anything I shoot (or Conor shoots) turns out perfectly.

Fourteen Months!

Who is 14 months old? You! And you are amazing! What have we learned this month?

I thought you were well on your way to walking, but you decided that was just a big fake out because crawling gets you where you want to go faster and with less chance of falling and cracking your head. As with many things, it's more a matter of wanting to rather than being able to. You just have no interest in walking although I am completely confident that you can walk.

You are making an amazing amount of sounds. Not a ton of words yet, but I think they are going to start accumulating soon.

Your obsession with books continues. I believe that I could start a bonfire with all of your toys and as long as I kept the books, you'd be happy. You find books that feature any kind of rabbit or owl delightful. Bear Hunt is now your reigning favorite book.

We spend a good portion of our day taking things out of other things and then putting them back in. Pots out of the cabinets, cotton balls out of a bag, barrettes out of the cup, etc. Although we put things back, I still can't seem to keep the house tidy at all. It's your house now.

Instead of just giving kisses, you are now blowing people kisses. It's very nice.

We have let you start watching a little TV. You love it. Little Einsteins and Sesame Street are your two shows. You request them by grabbing the remote (actually any remote) and frantically pushing buttons.

The engineering track continues. Check out these building skills!

You're still the best thing in the world. We love you to pieces.

Savannah conquers a fear

Savannah got a beautiful pop-up version of We're Going on A Bear Hunt for Christmas.

The only problem was that she was terrified of it. This picture does not do justice to the histrionics that would occur if we opened that book. But you get the idea.

Conor decided that she needed to conquer her fears.

And she did! Look how happy she is that she found the bear! This is now her most favorite book.
