Mayfield Park

A few more from the Thanksgiving weekend.

The grandparents and I took the little one down to Mayfield Park, a beautiful garden a few minutes from our house. The best part of the park - peacocks!

Thanksgiving!

Boy did we have a nice Thanksgiving.

Since our new kitchen is the size of my first apartment, we thought we should have the whole clan down to Austin. Here is the photographic evidence of such an awesome undertaking. (Click for larger)

It was an exceptional sports weekend as well....

The Cowboys won in impressive fashion, the Dallas Stars won and there was some other sports thing that we watched......I can't quite remember - OH WAIT!

TWO YEARS IN A ROW BABY!

Rich, I think you can rest easy - it's looking like Mike Sherman or the guy from Boise State - Pederson. The 'Ol Ball Coach seems to be staying put at SC.

I am so thankful that all the ga-ga's and Rod & Jackie were able to join us for such a wonderful day. Savannah keeps saying "Fun Turkey Day". Indeed!

Brian Davis: Spurrier is the only coach out there right now who has the
"Wow!" factor, I believe. I bet he'd love to coach in College Station, just 90
miles down the road from the man he once called "Mr. Football" (aka UT's Mack
Brown). He could tweak Oklahoma's Bob Stoops, too. Spurrier and Stoops are big
buddies from their Florida days, and Stoops views him as sort of a mentor. It's
easier to win the Big 12 than the SEC, so that's a reason for Spurrier to bolt
South Carolina. Will it happen? We'll see.

Dumb things that have happened to me in the last 10 days

I shouldn't be allowed out in public without a helmet......

1. I hit my shin on a grocery cart, resulting in a bruise the size of a large egg
2. I fell off a stage shooting a wedding (small stage, but still)
3. I fell onto a tree stump while shooting a portrait on Sunday
4. I dropped one dozen newly purchased eggs off of our counter resulting in massive egg carnage. Not one survivor.

Here is one wonderful thing I did for myself this week....

1. Had the house cleaned by professionals. WORTH EVERY PENNY.

Trains! She has some Deible in her after all. I think it's in our DNA that we like toy trains. Oh and the hair is getting cut next week - it's out of control!!!!!!

I would be so happy!!!!!!!!

I don't know if you all are following the abysmal state of my Alma Mater's football program, and this is hardly a sports blog, but please indulge me this.

This would make my YEAR! (sports wise). I know this is a shot in the dark and basically just made up speculation, but STILL! I have irrational love for Spurrier. (That sound you now hear is Conor and my mom shaking their heads at me)

Actually, I would love anyone that could help the Aggies throw the darn ball more and win some big games.

Conor's Birthday

OK - working backwards.......I am still buried buried buried, but the blogging's not going to do itself now is it?

Happy Birthday Conor!!! (it was November 6th). We had a lovely birthday celebration....

Monthly Update: 23 Months

Could you be a more delightful girl this month? No, you could not.

Month 23 has been amazing! I'd like to believe it's due to your Daddy's and my superior parenting skills, but I think it's mostly because you are one super cool little lady.

I think we are over the school crying hump. Finally! I dropped you off at school on Thursday and you whined a little when I left, but it was nothing compared to the usual freak out. You were even excited to see your teacher 'Where Miss Karen? Where Miss Karen? THERE Miss Karen!!!!" (and then you ran up and hugged her). I'm so happy. I think it's partially because you are starting to have fun playing with other kiddos.

You have been very interested in other kids this last month and I think that's great. You're still not the best at playing WITH them, as they may want to play with the same thing you're playing with, but you certainly like having little friends around.

You can now manage to say your full name "Savannah". You still call your self "Sava" quite often, but it's very impressive that you can get your full name out now. I had no idea it would be such a difficult name for kids to say. You get called all kinds of random thing by other kids. When we were down the street playing with your friend Olivia, she handed you something and said "There you go Banana." Very funny.

You believe that every book was written by Sandra Boyton. This is my fault as every time we read one of her books (and we have a lot of them - they're great) I would say "Moo, Baa, Lalala, by Sandra Boyton". Unfortunately, now when I say "Goodnight Moon", you will follow that with "By Sandra Boyton". Oh well.



We got our first full song sung by you the other day. Here is the transcript:

I laughed for a while about that one. I'm so happy you are enjoying music. You have taken to using your toy pot lids as cymbals and there is a great interpretive dance that goes along with the cymbal playing. Your dancing is also getting much more advanced.

You greet me at the crib every morning by showing me how you can jump. You actually get some serious air from your mattress. Jumping on solid ground is still a ways off I think. You 'jump' on the ground by squatting down and raising yourself up to your tiptoes.

You love cooking with your play food. You have made a lot of stew and soup and tea for the animals and me this month. You are also very good at cooking 'music grass' (thanks Einsteins) and are constantly bringing me a plate that has about six stickers on it and telling me it's music grass for mama. Drawing is also still very big

We have had several 'big' days this past month; Halloween, a neighbor's birthday party, your Daddy's birthday, and you have really enjoyed them all. Our Halloween couldn't have been better. You are still asking to go trick or treating and you did a perfect job of telling Daddy "Happy Birthday!' You also are really into the cake. We had a great time making it and I think you will be much more into your birthday cake this year.

You have been telling me that you want to sit in a 'big girl chair' during mealtimes. I think we are nearing the end of the high chair days. You also responded 'Big Girl!' for the first time this month when we asked you if you were a baby or a big girl. I am also hearing a lot of 'no mama, Sava do it!'

You are very interested in what everyone is doing. I hear a lot of 'What's (fill in name) doing?' 'Sava do it?' So, so curious and adventuresome.

You are so funny and imaginative and we get to hear you laugh quite a bit. I think 2 is going to be great!

Halloween Wrap up

It will be difficult for me to describe the scene in our neighborhood last night. I don't think there is a more Halloween-ified neighborhood in the state of Texas. It was AMAZING!

First off, we had a little photo-booth fun in our costumes.

Our neighborhood has a Halloween parade, complete with a bag-piper and a firetruck leading the parade. I had been told about the parade, but thought that it would be like 15 kids - this is the scene. I swear there were about 200 people there. Everyone dresses up. So fun.

On the parade route. We thought that Savannah was bored as she was just quietly looking around during the first part of the parade, so we pulled off into our driveway. She burst into tears and yelled "More parade!!!!!!", so we kept on parading. She was apparently just taking everything in.

The first house for trick or treating! We have been working for a while to get Savannah to say 'Trick or treat' and 'Thank You'. In general, she did a great job - sometimes she would mix them up. It's pretty cute when a little kid yells "Trick or Treat!' after you give them a piece of candy.

Here's the greatest part you guys - Savannah doesn't know that you can actually EAT the candy. She thinks that it's just for putting in a pumpkin and sorting out later. We will continue this line of thought for as long as we can.

Sitting outside waiting for kids. Most of the neighbors just sit outside waiting as you get about 30 kids at a time. Seriously.

Savannah and I were out trick or treating for about 20 minutes and Conor said about 100 kids came to the door. I gave candy out to at least another 50-75.

All in all, a VERY successful and fun Halloween. I hope that yours was just as fun.
